Public Enemy have announced What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down, their first new album for Def Jam in more than 20 years. The follow-up to 2017’s Nothing Is Quick in the Desert is out September 25. Check out the artwork below.
In a press release, Chuck D said, “Cultural Institutions are important. Being an integral part of one is an honor bestowed and to uphold. Public Enemy songs are forever sonic prints in the sands of time. And it’s time—it’s necessary—to bring the noise again from a place called home. Def Jam. Fight The Power 2020.” Flavor Flav added, “Def Jam is like the house we grew up in. It’s cool to be home.”
Earlier this year, the group released “State of the Union (STFU),” the album’s DJ Premier-produced, Trump-baiting lead single. The video contains footage of protests and police brutality, including the killing of George Floyd. Before that, the group appeared to fire Flavor Flav, then claimed it had been an elaborate April Fools hoax. Flav said he had been unaware of the plan.
